Talk Tuesday-What Is The Meaning of Life?

What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? Is everything indeed a chasing after the wind or is there more to our earthly journey than meets the eye? These are all questions that mankind has wrestled with for generations.

King Solomon ponders these questions in book of Ecclesiastes. He makes some poignant observations; “All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:8-9. The unbridled pursuit of wealth and pleasure is assessed against the reality his own gain. He declares, “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure,” Ecclesiastes 2:10; “Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun,” Ecclesiastes 2:11. He noted that, “Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless,” Ecclesiastes 5:10.

What then is his conclusion? “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and years approach when you will say, I find no pleasure in them,” Ecclesiastes 12:1. He leaves us with sobering, sage advice, “Fear GOD and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For GOD will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil,” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14.

I heard a sermon on the radio about knowing GOD. The speaker (Charles Price), warned, “It is very possible to make ourselves the end and GOD the means. We are the means and GOD is the end.” We are here to be in relationship with GOD, to experience Him, to know Him, to love Him, to serve Him, and to anticipate eternity with Him. “14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all,” 2 Corinthians 13:14. Be blessed!

Amen! Yes, He IS the Source of our lives! Life without Him has no meaning. Nothing life has to offer can compare with Him.

Blessings,
